About D.S. Watson
D.S. Watson is a novelist, short story writer, and freelance editor whose work has been featured in Sacramento News & Review, Rattle Lit Mag, and various anthologies. Her debut novel, Mr. Bix & Mother Bear, is highly anticipated and is slated for release in August 2025.
Born into a life of hardship in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1970s, D.S. grew up in an environment that shaped her resilience and passion for storytelling. From living in abandoned buildings and cars to finally settling in Sacramento, her upbringing instilled in her the determination that would later fuel her writing career. In Sacramento, she began writing seriously, self-publishing her first novel, The Magnificent Maggnom Opus, which, while not a cornerstone of her career, marked her tenacity and commitment to the craft.
In 2016, after her children left to pursue their own adventures, D.S. and her husband, Bill, a jazz musician, relocated to New Orleans to embrace the vibrant artistic culture of the Deep South where she actively participated in the local writing community. In New Orleans, she led three writer's groups: NOLA Creative Writing Critique, New Orleans Genre Fiction Writers' Group, and Shut Up & Write, New Orleans. She also sat on the selection committee for the New Orleans Writer’s residency, an annual residency for aspiring authors.
After seven enriching years, D.S. returned to Northern California, where she continues to write and mentor aspiring writers. When she isn't working on her next project, she enjoys hiking in the Pacific Northwest or relaxing with a good book and her elderly cat, Princess Meow.
