2024 Goals

Happy New Year, fellow humans!

It’s interesting how changing one’s perspective can bring a whole new meaning to something. And it is equally interesting how two or more perspectives are correct.

For instance, When we describe our fascination with the New Year, you could say that it’s an arbitrary marker that humans made up. Nothing changes; it’s just another day in a long succession of days. And this is true.

However, our ancestors have been celebrating the New Year (or at least the winter solstice) for centuries. Why? Well, for one thing, Winter was a deadly season, and they probably needed a party or two to keep their minds off that fact. But also, humans need to find something to look forward to, a reason to renew and be a better version of ourselves.

I decided this year to set some SMART goals for myself instead of creating resolutions. The difference is that resolutions tend to be arbitrary, e.g., “I’m going to exercise more.” At the same time, goals are ideally specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely (SMART). Therefore, here are my goals for 2024:

  1. Publish Mr. Bix & Mother Bear by the end of 2024, either traditionally or independently (which is more likely). To do this, I will create a marketing plan, set a timeline to complete tasks leading up to the release and work on my web presence.

  2. Finish the final draft of Admiral & Bonsai by June. I have set up a writing schedule and am sure I can complete the second draft by April. Then, I will look into hiring an editor.

  3. Do yoga and/or walk daily at least three times per week, if not more. I have set aside time on my calendar to get this done.

  4. Read one book per month. I’ve been slacking off on my reading and need to get back into it.

As far as this blog goes, I hope to post at least once every two weeks. We’ll see how it works into my schedule.

Anyway, that’s enough of that.
